  1. Congrats on starting your “spin” journey…and thanks for posting this comment! This post from March 2022 might be helpful: https://fortherideinside.com/2022/03/31/curating-perfection-in-the-cycle-studio/

Specific to your question about COMBO, I use it as a reference to a mix of seated and standing work, ideally following the structure of the song (chorus, bridge, etc.). Sometimes we’ll alternate between in/out of saddle 2, 3 or 4 times and other times it a progressively intense track were riders start seated and finish standing (mostly for hills). JUMPS or LIFTS are different and involve more frequently alternating between the two positions (approx. 2-4 counts on flat, and between 6 and 10 counts on a hill).

Another one people ask about is optional modification that’s more rhythmic – a FIGURE EIGHT. That’s more like a TAP BACK (from Soul Cycle). It’s one of those contra-indicated movements that some riders like…and can be tricky for people with knee, hip, or back issues.

I hope this helps and thanks for following this blog!

    Take care…ENJOY THE RIDE!

  2. Hi! I just started leading spin classes and your site has been so helpful!!!

Do you have a list or resource that explains more about what the terms mean… For example, I know what sprint and climb mean. However, I’m curious what “combo hill,” “combo sprint,” etc mean.

Thank you again for your generosity!!!
