V Day 521

February is the shortest month of the year and yet is packed with month-long themes: Black History, Heart Health, Cancer Prevention, and all-things love, romance, chocolates and flowers. It’s also the month when gyms, fitness clubs and cycle studios return to “normal”…after 30+ days into the new year, resolutioners giving up on wide-eyed plans for a healthier 2022.

This year, my regular Monday night cycle class at GRYMCA also falls on Valentine’s Day, so a theme ride is ready to roll. In past years, a traditional Valentine theme ride was my go-to, but for 2022 I’m going back to the popular alpha-artist theme. At first, thinking that a 45-minute playlist would be stretch…I ended up with a 60+ minute SPINlist for 2/14/2022.

Let’s Ride…

Warm-up – Brown Eyed Girl / Van Morrison

Seated flat with spin-ups – This Is What It Feels Like / Armin van Buuren, Trevor Guthrie

Alt seated / standing hill – Missing Piece / Vance Joy

Power climb – Shotgun Blues / Volbeat

Jumps – This Life / Vampire Weekend

Sprints (tabata intervals) – Bulls In The Bronx / Pierce The Veil

Alt seated / standing flat – Just My Type / The Vamps

Progressive climb – Bitter Sweet Symphony / The Verve

More hills – Heat Above / Greta Van Fleet

Attacks on a hill – Wake Up / Black Veil Brides

Active recovery / Jumps – Tom’s Diner / Suzanne Vega, DNA

Final rhythmic climb – Home / Vince Staples, Richie Kohan

Seated / standing sprints to the finish – Panama / Van Halen

Cool down & stretch – Freshman / The Verve Pipe

BONUS clean-up track – YMCA / The Village People

In the days / weeks to come, be sure to check out re-posts of past year February Theme-rides that pay tribute to BLACK HISTORY and HEART HEALTH!
