I love hearing stories about how indoor cycling has been a life changer (even a life saver)! Read on for two such stories from the owners and co-founders of Lunar Cycle, a new boutique indoor cycle studio set to open in Grand Rapids next month (January 2020). If you follow most posts here…you should already know about Lunar Cycle, but keep reading and you’ll learn how indoor cycling has made such an impact on these local fitness entrepreneurs.

Growing up in rural Idaho, my childhood bicycles were essential to getting around. I remember riding my bike several times to the next town six miles through the alfalfa, potato, and hop fields, something we wouldn’t let 12-year-olds do today! My bike liberated me to neighboring towns and friends’ houses throughout my youth. My love for a good mountain bike continued through a careless period in college, too, and on into social riding with friends to gravel and trail racing around Michigan most recently.
I taught my first cycling class years after I became a group fitness instructor. It quickly became an absolute favorite to teach. The dark room and loud music exhilarated me. Like teaching kickboxing, which has less than a dozen strikes, cycling on a stationary bike doesn’t offer a lot of new tricks, yet every workout feels unique. I am excited to bring the beats and the people and ride as one at LUNAR!

I fell in love with cycling after a knee/back injury benched me from running. For years I relied on running not just for physical fitness but also stress management. Because my life is 🍌🍌 When I struggled to run, I struggled to handle. One day I was pulling at my hair in a mental meltdown as Blair Lachman dropped me off at work. B said, “Be here at 11:45am. I have an idea.” That hunk grabbed me a pair of cycling shoes and picked me up on time. He drove me to the gym as a cycling class was starting. I came out of it, totally refreshed and smiling. I was hooked.
All these years later, I still love cycling. The music. The meditative headspace with a sweaty, calorie-torching workout. The rhythmic movement of the pack. I cannot wait to share our fresh formats and playlists.
I’m teaching Tuesday mornings and Thursday morning / evening on rotation. My classes include CYCLE HIIT, MOONBEATS, and CYCLE HYPNOS. Ride with me!

Back in the Fall of 2017, I started a 12-month guest blogger series featuring other indoor cycling instructors around the world. These are some of my favorite posts on For The Ride Inside!
Now that its been about 1-2 years since, let’s see what’s going on with these ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rockstars of indoor cycling…for those on Instagram (mostly everyone), I included a current post pic with their username so you can stay in touch with them too. (I could not reach everyone in time for this post, so a few photos and updates are not available.)

Allison recently started teaching cycle classes at a brand new 37,000 square foot 24 Hour Fitness Center near Houston, TX.

Recent Instagram post: MASTER INSTRUCTOR – a huge long term goal that is now ACHIEVED! When you are passionate about what you do, you want to be the best at it. And I’ve wanted this BAD! I can’t thank @soulcycle enough for this honor, the immense support they have given me over the years and for providing me with such an incredible platform to impact people’s lives in a positive way. And none of this happens without buy in and belief from everyone who rides with me. Even if you have only clipped in with me once in my eyes you are a part of BUILD IT NATION and to every member of that TEAM I cannot scream “THANK YOU” loud enough! Chicago – you were the perfect place for me to find my path as a coach and truly put my roots into and I can’t wait to continue building something special here in the years to come. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

At soon-to-be 52, life keeps me as busy as ever! I have chosen to be on the spin sub-list for the foreseeable future. With work, parenting, school sports, endurance training, sheriff volunteering, and planning another run across Michigan, something had to be removed to be able to fit it all in. Speaking of run across Michigan, June 4th and 5th will be another 100+ mile journey to raise money and awareness for fallen police officers (www.runacrossmichigan.com). I do miss my Monday morning spin crew but know its in very good hands!

Things are good!! I’m still teaching at QCC, still holding down the early bird fam at 5:45am, still preaching swagger 😉 lol
I got a STAGES cycling certification recently, and I took my first studio ride at Peloton with Alex Toussaint while I was on a work trip which was absolutely a fantastic experience!
And, most excitingly of all, my husband and I adopted a new doggo!!! She is a senior shelter pup, and she came from a really unfortunate set of circumstances but she’s SUCH a fantastic dog! Great with our cats, and loves the snow! (Beneficial since it’s Buffalo lol) We’ve added lots of leisurely walks around the block at 7 am after spin class with a coffee in hand to the routine these days 🙂 and I’m learning the zen of dog all over again… it had been a LONG time since a pup ate my shoes but so far this chick has managed to consume several hundred dollars worth but she’s worth all that and more so we roll with it haha…namaste, right?!

Hey there! A lot of great things have happened since my post in July 2018, with only a few low points battling an injury here and there. My highlights included teaching some really cool classes. Back in February, I taught a class inside one of Miami’s most popular nightclubs for a Daybreaker event. And then to celebrate Miami Music Week in March, I had a live DJ in my class from a music group based out of LA. I’ve also tweaked my style of teaching to prolong my own teaching longevity while also making my classes more exciting for my riders!
