TEST RIDE: LIVE CYCLE DELIGHT (West Village – Detroit, MI)

Last weekend my wife I and made the short road trip to the east side of the state to visit our oldest daughter and fiancé for a quick visit. They recently moved into an apartment in the heart of the city, near the iconic riverfront Renaissance Center.

About a week before the visit I heard about a special STUDIO PREVIEW WEEK for the newest boutique cycle studio in the Metro Detroit area…timed perfectly with our visit last weekend. I’ve been watching this studio, LIVE CYCLE DELIGHT, since first hearing about Amina Daniels and the journey she’s been on for the past several years. While the OFFICIAL public opening is a few weeks away, Amina and staff have been hosting PREVIEW classes: Studio Cycling, TRX and Yoga…my TOP THREE workouts…to raise awareness about their boutique fitness studio! We (wife, daughter and I) were able to make the Saturday AM group ride with Craig and Amina gave us a personal tour of her awesome two floor studio in Detroit’s historic and revitalized West Village. What a great add-on to our Detroit visit! The TRUE TEST of this visit was my daughter’s interest in going back for more…we all enjoyed the class, but Brittany is the most reluctant indoor cyclist in the family.

The space is open and large…an awesome update of an older building on a popular intersection (Detroit Vegan Soul, The Red Hook Detroit and Craft Work restaurants are steps away from the studio at the corner of Agnes & Van Dyke). Upstairs, the reception area is also the spot for picking up fresh, cold press juices and healthy snacks for your post-ride recovery. The lower level is open and has all the amenities you need before and after the ride: bathrooms, changing rooms, private showers, lockers/storage bins and plenty of room to move around. There are two fitness studios: one for TRX and Yoga classes…the other for Studio Cycling classes. There are about 24+ brand new Stages Indoor Cycling bikes (like the ones I’ve seen before at Lifetime Fitness) for class, an instructor’s bike on the podium up front. I really like the feel and overall adjustability of the Stages bikes. Each bike is equipped with a unique (proprietary) Stages fitness monitor, just about everything you want to know is displayed.
