Inspiration: ‘Tis the season…for all the “BEST OF” playlists, so here’s mine, and a few other reflections on 2016. These are all memorable, favorite (and often popular) tracks from all my playlists this past year. Some have been overplayed by now, others underplayed…but they’re all good for everything from WARM UP to COOL DOWN and everything in between FOR THE RIDE INSIDE. 52 tracks…one for every week of this amazing year in music! No ride profile with this post, just a bunch of music on Spotify.
Genre: Alternative, Country, EDM, Pop, Rock
Approximate time: 181 minutes
On Spotify:
Drake and One Dance are the top streamed Artist and track EVER…of course we often ride with Drake. CONTROLLA is one of my favorites for Jumps on a Hill. Here are all 52 of my favorites. Some more obscure artists that you should check out: Mads Langer, Hey Violet, Dua Lipa, ALMA, Serena Ryder, Lindsey Stirling, Saint Motel, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Alice Merton, James Arthur.
In the Studio:
When it comes to my rides / classes…I always try to mix it up with each class: genre, movements, pace, terrain, intensity. Always plan to sprint and climb hills along with standard seated / standing work on flat road and steep hills. Jumps & Jumps on a Hill are common, along with Running with Resistance movements. Least used movement…Standing / uphill Sprints (expect more in ’17). Visualization is key, form cues are important, emphasis on the beat to stay engaged and making the ride your own are some of the things I like to remind the group. 2016 has been an great year of rides…looking forward to what we can achieve in 2017! I’m so thankful for the YMCA of Grand Rapids and its dedicated members, Spotify, the fitness blogging community, the fitness industry and the music industry for what they bring to Cycle Studio…FOR THE RIDE INSIDE!
Happy Holidays!

One of the top pop tracks of the year is also a top streamed video on YOUTUBE
In The News:
Indoor Cycling News stories for 2016 included many of the usual suspects: SoulCycle and Flywheel…but this year, more stories about CycleBar, Zwift, Peloton, IMAX and other locally owned studios. Studio Cycling continues to thrive in the fitness industry. Maybe the following story by INSTYLE is why…
