It’s been a while since I’ve visited a cycle studio outside the great state of Michigan…my life-long home! Last time was InCycle in Carmel, IN.
Every winter, north central Florida is my dad’s home away from home and I’ve made a point of getting there a few times in recent years to visit and spend some time with him in the SUNSHINE STATE. This year, my wife and I had a full week to get away from the cold, snow, and clouds of Michigan (we dodged several days of very cold and very snowy weather).
I found Element Spin with the help of Google Maps and signed up for my free trial class…a 30-minute Strength Ride with Sara (studio owner & instructor). Complimentary first class options included: 7AM Rise and Ride!, Core Cadence, and Lunch Spin. Other class are available for a drop-in charge or for members: Sunday Power Pedal, Infinite Cycle, Sunrise Calorie Ignition, Rhythm Ride, Information Session, Theme Night with Sabrina or Margaret, Velocity Ride, and Full Body Fusion. A great, nearly full week schedule of 15 classes (closed Wednesdays)!
Other than the FREE CLASS option…this statement on their website caught my attention: Fitness at your pace – Come experience Ocala’s best new fitness facility!
Sara and team of five other instructors are featured on the website too, along with schedule of classes, prices, contact information, blog, and on-line booking page. Element can be found on Instagram and Facebook too.
The studio is just over a year old and located in a strip mall on the east side of the city. There are about 20 refurbished Keiser M3 indoor bikes, instructor’s stage, a variety of hand weights for upper body strength work, and a full wall of mirrors. Sara’s playlist was booming on the two speakers. I’ve never taught or taken a 30-minute class before, but felt like I got a good workout climbing and sprinting in and out of the saddle. About a third of the class time involved optional upper body strength work (variety of hand weights available). It was a sparsely attended class (four of us in all), but that didn’t get in the way of a good calorie-burn.
I didn’t take time to check out all the amenities, but I was thankful that sweat towels were provided. Bring your own cycling shoes, as they are not available for rental.

- City of Gainesville, aka The Swamp and Hogtown, is home to University of Florida Gators (where Gatorade was created)
- City of Ocala, aka ‘Horse Capital of the World’, has hundreds of thoroughbred farms and facilities…including the sprawling World Equestrian Center.
- Orange Lake, right between Gainesville and Ocala is home to native birds, fish…golf and RV’s too!
